Cubs Update
Aaron has been back at Cubs for the past 2 weeks now and has enjoyed it again. He did start up for a couple of weeks before lockdown 2, and received his 4 seasons badges, but it has been very stop start unfortunately. Last week, he made and coloured in a bird house and last night, he had a small Christmas Party where they played games all night and generally had a lot of fun!
Back To Swimming Lessons
We were really worried about this but much to our relief, when Kelly took Aaron and Coby back to swimming two weeks ago, she said it was perfect and that they had done a very good job in keeping children and parents socially distant. There were actually only two groups of children in the pool, which was Coby’s Stage 2 in the small pool and Aaron’s Stage 5/6 in the big pool. This meant that it was nice and quiet in the cafe for Kelly to stand and wait for them, which was the main concern really. The only other change was that the boys’ lessons finished 5 mins earlier to ensure time for them to change and leave the premises before the next groups arrived and that they are meant to turn up in their swimming gear ready to go. The turning up part is the hardest as Kelly takes them straight from school so they still do get changed in the changing rooms as they don’t have much choice really. As it is so quiet, it isn’t much of an issue though, thank goodness!
For the swimming itself, they both were very rusty when they started again as they hadn’t been swimming since March! Aaron had forgotten how to do Butterfly completely! haha They will soon get into it again though, as long as the pool doesn’t get shut down again!! It is good that they are back as they really need to get through this now and get on and complete their swimming lessons!
Cubs Show
For Aaron’s final Cubs session before half term, they put on a show for parents and other higher up Scout people. Unfortunately, siblings were not allowed to go, so I ended up staying home with Coby and Ben whilst Kelly went to watch him. Aaron didn’t do too much in the show but instead was mostly a stage hand, although he did have one line to say. He seemed to enjoy it anyway and Kelly said that he did well. The show itself was a series of sketches to entertain the people attending, so there was no set theme. From the video Kelly took, it was like an episode of Monty Python!! haha
Netball Club
Aaron has joined the new Netball club at School which has been setup for those in Year 3 and 4, which we are very pleased about as it will give him some good exercise and experience with sport again, as he doesn’t do anything else, apart from swimming lessons. He has had 3 weeks of it so far and he has come home shattered after each one! He says he has been enjoying it though, so hopefully he can do well with it and perhaps become the Captain like Ben is in the older Netball team.
Space Badge
Aaron has now got his ‘Space’ badge at Cubs. To get this, Aaron had to learn about the stars and space and also make a constellation using a torch, a cardboard tube and some thin paper. He had to put holes in the paper to make the shape of a constellation, which he did, and it worked very well. He was quite pleased with his new badge so Kelly just has to sew it on to his Cubs jumper now!
