Cubs and Final Beavers Session
For the past half term, Aaron has been attending Cubs on a Wednesday evening from 6:30pm to 8pm to get introduced to it. He has been enjoying it as Sarah and Sarah are running that as well. He will be starting Cubs properly in September.
So, last Friday was his last Beavers session where he ‘swam up’ to Cubs officially. The parents of the Beavers ‘swimming up’ were asked to stay to watch a little ceremony where the Beaver got given their new Cubs jumper officially and also received a certificate and badge. We had got Aaron his new Cubs uniform a week or two ago, ready for this session. Aaron was quite nervous stood at the front and struggled to take his jumper off! haha He had to shake Sarah and Sarah’s hands, and also the head Beaver (Eric) who congratulated him on doing so well. It was quite sad really as Aaron had been at Beavers for 2 years! But at least he is now joining most of his friends in Cubs as a lot of them are slightly older than him so ‘swam up’ the previous school term. Aaron has learnt a lot at Beavers though and loves going, so Cubs will be awesome for him as well!
For the rest of his final Beavers session, they played indoor water games until near the end when the torrential wind and rain outside eased, so they went out and had water fights outside! At least we get our Friday evenings back now…..until Coby starts in 2020!
Fire Station Visit With Beavers
After Coby’s birthday party at Jump, Aaron had Beavers and it was a visit to Crownhill Fire Station. We had to miss the start of the session due to Coby’s party, but were allowed to stop in afterwards.
It was very good and the Beavers were allowed to have a close up look of the Fire Engine and were shown what to do if you got caught alight, and various other things. Towards the end, they were all about to have a go on the fire hose but, typically, just before it was Aaron’s turn, the fire bell rang to say there was a real fire, so they had to pack up quickly and speed off! So Aaron missed out on that but they had to go and potentially put a real fire out, so you can’t blame them.
It was a good session though and Aaron, and the other Beavers, enjoyed it there! Coby was allowed to go in with Kelly as well, so he had a bit of fun as well! 😉
Beavers Midnight Walk
The Beavers were meant to have a Friday night film night and sleepover before half term, but that had to be cancelled due to changes in the rules for adults being with them all night. Aaron wasn’t going to sleep over in the scout hut anyway as an adult would have had to stay with him (and Kelly and I didn’t want to do that!!) so they had to change it to a ‘midnight’ walk (at 6pm) and then a film and sweets after. Kelly went with him and the head Beaver took them, in the pitch black, all around the local area, into the muddy fields and woods! They were quite lagged with mud afterwards and Kelly was glad she took her boots to change into for the walk!! Aaron had great fun though but they didn’t see any Deer or other animals, which was a shame. They then watched a film and ate lots of naughty food before getting home just after 10pm, as they stayed behind to help tidy up. Beavers is a great thing to do as Aaron gets to do lots of awesome things that he likes! Coby has signed up already but has to be 5 before he starts and Ben wants to do it as well, but he is too old for Beavers now and none of his friends do it anyway.
Beavers Christmas Party and Quiz
For the final Beavers session of the term, they put together a Christmas party and quiz (with the help of Kelly as she on the Beavers ‘committee’ now!). It was a fun couple of hours and Aaron enjoyed the evening with is Beaver friends. We all went to the event as we had entered the quiz, but we didn’t win unfortunately. However, we did win a £25 off voucher for a Nerf party from the raffle! The boys took some of their money and they all bought some hot chocolate and marshmallow reindeer cones, and also some reindeer food to sprinkle on to our front steps on Christmas Eve. There was loads left over after so we had some more for free as well. We didn’t manage to buy the wooden Christmas tree that Aaron and I had painted a few weeks ago unfortunately, as another family got in there first. We stayed behind after to help clean and tidy up but we all had an enjoyable evening and all the money raised is going to be put straight back in to the Beavers kitty for events next term, which is excellent!
Beavers Christmas Tree Making
Last Friday at Beavers, Aaron was helping to sand and paint a Christmas Tree made out of a pallet. I went along and helped as well for the session, along with some other Dads. The pallet Christmas Trees had been made already outside of Beavers by some Dads who were carpenters, so they were all ready to be sanded down and then painted. Aaron and I managed to get our own tree to begin with, but then some of the other Beavers in Aaron’s lodge helped out until the green paint ran out. We managed to finish off the entire front of the tree by the end of the session but didn’t get to paint all of the back of the tree unfortunately. Also, some of the other Beavers managed to get green paint on the star, which was slightly annoying as I would have bought that tree for sure if it was just myself and Aaron that had worked on it. Aaron had good fun and enjoyed the painting and I managed to get him to do nice smooth strokes, but had it all over him by the end! Next week, they are going to be decorating the tree and Kelly is staying to help with that! 😉
