Last Friday was Christmas Jumper day at Bickleigh School, so both Aaron and Coby went dressed up in their new Christmas jumpers.  They looked very smart indeed!! 🙂

PostHeaderIcon Cubs Update

Aaron has been back at Cubs for the past 2 weeks now and has enjoyed it again.  He did start up for a couple of weeks before lockdown 2, and received his 4 seasons badges, but it has been very stop start unfortunately.  Last week, he made and coloured in a bird house and last night, he had a small Christmas Party where they played games all night and generally had a lot of fun!

Last week Aaron came home with a School Values Award for something special that he had done at school.  This one was for ‘showing love and kindness in the playground’ which meant that he must have helped another child at some point and was spotted doing so.  Well done, Aaron!!

PostHeaderIcon Back To Swimming Lessons

We were really worried about this but much to our relief, when Kelly took Aaron and Coby back to swimming two weeks ago, she said it was perfect and that they had done a very good job in keeping children and parents socially distant.  There were actually only two groups of children in the pool, which was Coby’s Stage 2 in the small pool and Aaron’s Stage 5/6 in the big pool.  This meant that it was nice and quiet in the cafe for Kelly to stand and wait for them, which was the main concern really.  The only other change was that the boys’ lessons finished 5 mins earlier to ensure time for them to change and leave the premises before the next groups arrived and that they are meant to turn up in their swimming gear ready to go.  The turning up part is the hardest as Kelly takes them straight from school so they still do get changed in the changing rooms as they don’t have much choice really.  As it is so quiet, it isn’t much of an issue though, thank goodness!

For the swimming itself, they both were very rusty when they started again as they hadn’t been swimming since March!  Aaron had forgotten how to do Butterfly completely! haha  They will soon get into it again though, as long as the pool doesn’t get shut down again!!  It is good that they are back as they really need to get through this now and get on and complete their swimming lessons!

1st Day In Year 5

1st Day In Year 5

So, Aaron is now in Year 5 and has Mr Stein as his teacher, the same as Ben had.  He seems to like him, which is good, and is doing well considering he hadn’t been to school since March!  There was a blip a few weeks into term though, when he, and the rest of year 5, had to isolate for two weeks as a child in their year’s parents had a positive covid test.  Luckily, the school was a bit more prepared this time so he had better organised work to do at home, although he stormed through it all each day and ended up finishing early most days!

He has been enjoying PE each week and has been doing tag Rugby and cross country.  Reports in from other children are that Aaron has been doing exceptionally well and is actually beating a lot of the regular runners at cross country now! It’s no wonder really as he is tall and lanky and should be near the front! haha  They have also said that he and Rafe are excellent in tag rugby as they are the two with the tags and they do a really good job of keeping away from everyone else.  A very good team apparently!  Awesome!

Homework wise, until a couple of weeks ago, he has only had spellings to do – nothing else at all!!  Coby has had about 4 pages of homework each week so Aaron has been very lucky so far!  Since he has been getting homework as well as spellings, it has only been a small amount and so not taken him very long at all. Lucky chap!

Anyway, he is getting on very well, which is the main thing!

Here is a pic of him on the first day of school.  He is dressed in his PE kit as the children have to go to school wearing their PE kit If they have PE that day as they are not allowed to change at school anymore, due to covid.  Unfortunately, it does mean that if they get wet and muddy, they have to stay in it for the rest of the day! He has come home very, very mucky most days!!
