PostHeaderIcon Cubs and Final Beavers Session

For the past half term, Aaron has been attending Cubs on a Wednesday evening from 6:30pm to 8pm to get introduced to it. He has been enjoying it as Sarah and Sarah are running that as well. He will be starting Cubs properly in September.

So, last Friday was his last Beavers session where he ‘swam up’ to Cubs officially. The parents of the Beavers ‘swimming up’ were asked to stay to watch a little ceremony where the Beaver got given their new Cubs jumper officially and also received a certificate and badge. We had got Aaron his new Cubs uniform a week or two ago, ready for this session. Aaron was quite nervous stood at the front and struggled to take his jumper off! haha He had to shake Sarah and Sarah’s hands, and also the head Beaver (Eric) who congratulated him on doing so well. It was quite sad really as Aaron had been at Beavers for 2 years! But at least he is now joining most of his friends in Cubs as a lot of them are slightly older than him so ‘swam up’ the previous school term. Aaron has learnt a lot at Beavers though and loves going, so Cubs will be awesome for him as well!

For the rest of his final Beavers session, they played indoor water games until near the end when the torrential wind and rain outside eased, so they went out and had water fights outside! At least we get our Friday evenings back now…..until Coby starts in 2020!

A couple of weeks ago, Aaron decided that he wanted to try and join a football club again, with sessions run by WestPro. This coincided with Coby starting playing as well on a Tuesday at 5pm at Eggbuckland school, as Aaron knew that his good friends also played football on a Tuesday at 6pm, straight after Coby’s year, and they had been asking Aaron to join up for ages. So we said we would take him along with Coby and he joined in with the first hour (so the coach could see how well he did) before also joining in with the session for his own age group.

We were quite surprised that Aaron lasted both sessions without getting too tired out and we were also impressed with how well he played, especially in the lower age group. He scored a couple of cracking goals and we were cheering him on from the sidelines! He seemed to really enjoy it but kept looking over at us for reassurances. 😉 He was with the older children from that group, so Coby was with some others of his own age in a different group. Aaron was still the oldest there though and taller than them all!

In the second session, all his friends played as well and they were put into teams. Aaron was in goal quite a lot but he did play out as well and did well, although you could see the step up in quality with his age group. He did very well though and did a few good passes and saves in goal, and managed a couple of shots.  It was very good really although we would have liked a bit more training in the older session due to some team coaches being there wanting to practices for the upcoming matches. All the training seemed to happen in the session before with the younger children. Anyway, Aaron enjoyed it and wanted to carry on each week, so we paid for him to start properly and he now goes on a Tuesday. 😉

Aaron has also joined the Tag Rugby club on a Wednesday after school, which did surprise us as he isn’t very sporty really. Several of his good friends are doing it and we did manage to convince him to try it, just so he did some exercise! He said it was ‘alright’ afterwards, but he said he didn’t get much of the ball. I think they were just teaching them the rules this week so hopefully he will be more involved next week! Well done Aaron for giving it a go though!

PostHeaderIcon Sign Language Club

Aaron has joined the sign language club which runs after school on a Monday. Ben has also joined it and so has a few of his friends. He said he enjoyed the first lesson this week so hopefully he will enjoy each week and come back and show us some words in sign language!

Aaron has now joined Beavers!

He has had a couple of free taster sessions and has loved every minute of them! We have just paid for the membership and almost bought him his uniform so he is now almost a fully fledged Beaver! 😉

He has already been involved in cooking sausages on a BBQ, building things and this week they will be going out into the woods to build camps and other outdoor things, so he can’t wait! He will also have activities taking place over weekends where they go off to the local Scout Leaders Hut and in the woods nearby and do circus skills, make bug hotels and make camps, etc. It sounds really good and Coby has already said he wants to go as well when he is older! haha

Several of his best friends go as well, so he knows enough people there to make him feel comfortable with going and it takes place just up the road at the Woolwell Scout Hut for an hour and a half, so is nice and close, even though it means we can’t relax on a Friday evening again until he gets home. Hopefully Aaron will keep it up though as it seems really good!
