Beavers Bike Ride
During Beavers 2 weeks ago, they did a bike ride from Clearbrook down to Bickleigh Viaduct and back. Initially, they were only going to ride to the tunnel and back but they made it so quick there that we were allowed to carry on to Bickleigh Viaduct, which was another 10 minutes along the trail. I was one of the helpers and had a Beaver group that consisted of Aaron and Archie, and Ben, who was allowed to tag along as well, as long as he behaved himself. Aaron really enjoyed the bike ride (and so did I!) and did very well cycling, until he got to the final uphill stretch where he ended up pushing his bike along as he said his legs were too tired. It didn’t help that Ben’s pedal fell off at about the same point as well! We were group 1, so we led the way, until the final stretch! We were so far ahead at one point, we were waiting at the break point for about 5 minutes before group 2 arrived. The best part for Aaron (and me) was going through the tunnel as it is quite dark in there. All the Beavers loved that and were making noises as they were cycling through it. It was great fun!
When we got back to Clearbrook, we had a Beavers picnic that was organised by Kelly and Faye, with the help of Coby and Charlie. There was a good spread of picnic food so all the Beavers scoffed a lot although Aaron was a little full up apparently and wanted to climb trees instead with his friends!
The weather was perfect as well, so we couldn’t have asked for a better 1st bike ride with the Beavers. Hopefully they will organise another one as the Beavers all said they wanted to do it again at the end! 😉
Bike Rides
A few weeks ago, myself, Ben and Aaron went out for a bike ride from Plym Bridge to the tunnel past Bickleigh Viaduct and back. They both did really well and cycled all the way there and back to the car which turned out to be about 8 miles. 😉 Kelly and Coby were at a party so missed this little trip!
Then a couple of weeks ago, we all went out for a bike ride from Yelverton to the Tunnel before you get to Tavistock. This was good fun as only I had been along that stretch of Drake’s Trail before, so the scenery was all new to everyone else. This ride turned out to be about 6 miles and was quite hard coming back as we had to go up the big hill to get back to Yelverton which saps the energy out of you. Again, Aaron and Ben both cycled all the way on there own (apart from pushing the bike up the hill!). Coby enjoyed himself in his trailer but it made Kelly struggle a lot as he is a lot heavier than he was so I think we will have to change things and get his trailer strapped up to my bike instead for the next trip!
Balanceability Completed
Yesterday was Aaron’s last Balanceability lesson and he has completed it with ease! He can now ride a bike properly and safely without stabilisers and he got rewarded with a nice certificate! Very well done Aaron!
Balanceability
Over the last few weeks at School, Aaron has taken part in the Balanceability club/lessons to help him learn to ride his bike without stabilisers, and they have worked miracles! After the 3rd lesson, Aaron was able to ride his bike without them! Miracle!
The first two lessons were taught using a balance bike, so that the children could learn to balance themselves correctly, and those that could do this were asked to bring their bikes in, without the stabilisers on. Aaron was one of them that was asked to do this, so we took it in and he has taken to it like a duck to water! Well done Aaron! 😉 The best £25 we have spent since we did this for Ben when he was in the reception year!
Since then he has ridden his bike around Gramps’ house and also up along Mount Batten with no problems at all! He has another lesson to go as well (total of 6), so he should get even more confident on it. He is itching to get out on Drakes Trail now on our next family bike ride!
